The clocks have gone back, fireworks have fizzled out, and those carefully carved pumpkins have found a new home in the compost. Now it’s time to look forward to the joys of Christmas as it gallops over the horizon like a sprightly reindeer—and there’s no better place to indulge in the magic of the season than in the beautiful town of Lyme Regis.
Shops in the High Street will be positively bursting with activity and twinkling, iridescent light; the seafront a hive of festive cheer as cafes serve hot coffee and mince pies to accompany your coastal strolls. And here, at Alexandra Hotel and Restaurant, you’ll find all the warm and welcoming Christmas merriment you could hope for in our peaceful seaside paradise. So, why not step out of the cold, grab a spicy mulled wine, and see what yuletide adventures you can experience in the coming weeks…
It’s just a short leisurely stroll down to the Baptist Church at Pine Hall where you can bask in the eye-catching display of glittering Christmas trees that have been decorated by hard-working local groups and organisations. Take a magical tour through the miniature woodland of dazzling trees; each one creatively adorned with lights, ornaments and trimmings that encapsulate the theme of the organisations involved.
It’s free to attend—but donations are hugely appreciated— and runs from Friday 15th December to Sunday 17th December. This bounty of festive cheer should be high on the list of Christmas events to attend this year; the Lyme Christmas Tree Festival is an enchanting spectacle that won’t fail to get you into high spirits in the lead-up to the big day!
Christmas Lights in Lyme
The Lyme Regis Christmas lights are a spectacular annual illumination display that have become famous in the region, drawing massive crowds of locals and visitors looking to soak up the captivating seasonal atmosphere. It's a wonderfully special time of year when the community of Lyme Regis comes together to create a truly magical experience.
The countdown beings on the 25th of November with the illuminated carnival, lantern parade and the all-important switching on of the town’s Christmas lights. It’s not one to miss! Santa will be the guest of honour this year, arriving in style on his sleigh to turn on the stunning light display.
Meanwhile, a Christmas lantern-making workshop will be held at Pine Hall Baptist Church; a free event guaranteed to provide plenty of festive fun for the entire family.
