A boutique hotel in Dorset, The Alexandra Hotel & Restaurant is a beautiful example of one of the best UK coastal hotels. Set within private gardens overlooking the famous Cobb harbour and out across the Jurassic Coast of Lyme Bay, wake up to the perfect view in the morning.

Built in 1735 for the Dowager Countess Poulett and later the home of the Duc du Stackpoole, the Alexandra became a hotel in 1901 and for over 100 years has continued to uphold its tradition as a timeless haven of English peace and charm. The Alexandra has been privately owned and managed by the Haskins family for over 30 years, providing guests with the upmost in comfort and luxury.

My favourite hotel in the world

“I have stayed many times over the past 25 years at the Alexander in Lyme Regis . The standard is excellent and within minutes of arriving I unwind: the ambience and service in this hotel are second to none. It is also very peaceful and quiet. On this occasion they greeted me with an additional message: they had upgraded me to a more superior room which not only had a king-size bed but also a sea view - the latter was an understatement as there were chairs and foot rest so that one could put one's feet up and sit looking out of the window enjoying the sea, Cobb and its adjacent beach below. Superb. ”
